Episode 25: I Object to the Objectification

Kyel and Matt discuss the 2020 Superbowl Halftime Show, brought about by Matt's uncomfortable experience of trying to watch the halftime show with his 5 year old son. This leads to a conversation surrounding the beauty of our sexuality, as God designed it, and how our culture tries to strip sex of its meaning, and therefore strips it of its beauty.

Topics of Conversation:

Confirmation Retreat: Matt and Kyel co-lead a small group of 16 high school students preparing for the sacrament of confirmation, and this past weekend they helped lead the confirmation retreat.  Matt and Kyel enjoyed getting to know their group better, and growing in relationship with Jesus Christ.  They also enjoyed experiencing the world and all its beauty without the distractions of everyday life.

Matt and Kyel dive into a discussion on the 2020 Pepsi Halftime Show, and the provocative nature of the performances by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.

Matt quotes Christopher West’s book Theology of the Body for Beginners “If you want to know what is most sacred in this world, all we need to do is look for what is most violently profaned.”

Matt quotes Jason Everett regarding the beauty of the female body, and how that is part of God’s plan for us.

Kyel brings up the comfort we’ve succumbed to in our lives, which can so easily lead to an unintentional approach to our faith.  He also mentions monster crocs.
