Kyel and Matt discuss justification through faith, which leads to God pouring the supernatural grace of Charity into our hearts, and how it is only through the grace of Charity that we are able to do good works. So ultimately, our good works flow from justification, not the other way around. Kyel also brings up the hot topic of COVID-19, and grills Matt on female involvement in the Catholic liturgy.
Episode 29: The Nitty-Gritty
Kyel and Matt jump into a topic of paramount importance. Matt solves all his wife's problems, Kyel could be accused of saying women are "simple souls" (if taken out of context), and neither Matt nor Kyel have faith the size of a mustard seed. EPISODE NOTES
“Prayer is the raising of one’s mind and heart to God, or the requesting of good things from God.” - St. John Damascene
“Late have I loved Thee, O Beauty so ancient and so new; late have I loved Thee! For Behold, Thou were within me, and I outside, and I sought Thee outside and in my unloveliness fell upon those lovely things that Thou hast made. Thou were with me and I was not with Thee. I was kept from Thee by those things, yet had they not been in Thee, they would not have been at all. Thou didst call and cry to me and break open my deafness, and Thou didst send forth Thy beams and shine upon me and chase away my blindness, Thou didst breathe fragrance upon me, and I drew in my breath and do not pant for Thee, and now hunger and thirst for Thee, Thou didst touch me, and I have burned for Thy peace.” – St. Augustine, Confessions
“And He said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.” Matthew 17:20

Episode 25: I Object to the Objectification
Kyel and Matt discuss the 2020 Superbowl Halftime Show, brought about by Matt's uncomfortable experience of trying to watch the halftime show with his 5 year old son. This leads to a conversation surrounding the beauty of our sexuality, as God designed it, and how our culture tries to strip sex of its meaning, and therefore strips it of its beauty.
Topics of Conversation:
Confirmation Retreat: Matt and Kyel co-lead a small group of 16 high school students preparing for the sacrament of confirmation, and this past weekend they helped lead the confirmation retreat. Matt and Kyel enjoyed getting to know their group better, and growing in relationship with Jesus Christ. They also enjoyed experiencing the world and all its beauty without the distractions of everyday life.
Matt and Kyel dive into a discussion on the 2020 Pepsi Halftime Show, and the provocative nature of the performances by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.
Matt quotes Christopher West’s book Theology of the Body for Beginners “If you want to know what is most sacred in this world, all we need to do is look for what is most violently profaned.”
Matt quotes Jason Everett regarding the beauty of the female body, and how that is part of God’s plan for us.
Kyel brings up the comfort we’ve succumbed to in our lives, which can so easily lead to an unintentional approach to our faith. He also mentions monster crocs.
